Crossrail is one of Europe’s largest construction projects: a 118km railway line under development across London and the home counties. As part of the wider Crossrail project, packages of works that are described as “on network works” have been completed or are due for completion in 2019/20.
The signalling and associated civil engineering, telecoms and power packages were awarded by Network Rail to Alstom (previously Signalling Solutions) in 2011.
Abacus has provided commercial management and quantity surveying support to Alstom throughout the delivery of these packages of work on this prestigious project.
The scale
Final accounts on these projects will exceed £100m of signalling works delivered successfully.
The challenge
The signalling brief is to upgrade the existing SSI (Solid State Interlocking) to a CBI (Computer Based Interlocking) technology and to design with consideration for the future ERTMS (European Railway Traffic Management System).
Delivery
Abacus has supported the wider Alstom project team, providing pre and post-contract services in a complex environment.
