Bristol Area Resignalling Renewal
Paving the way to electric with commercial support
Abacus has been engaged in providing a full range of commercial services to Alstom Transport (formerly Signalling Solutions Ltd) on its resignalling project for Network Rail in the Bristol area. The project began in 2013, and the deadline for the final commissioning date has been extended to 2019.
The scale
The original £80m contract included 100+ miles of cable route; 12 REBs; associated civils works and 20 signalling VIXLs.
Scope change resulted in the contract expanding to include signalling enhancement packages associated with Filton Four Tracking, Patchway-Parkway and Bristol East.
The challenge
Signalling in Bristol is being upgraded in readiness for the Government’s planned switch over from diesel to electric. The project’s objective is to upgrade signalling on the GWR line linking Swindon and Gloucester fringes, Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway stations.
Delivery
Abacus has provided continuous commercial support to SSL/Alstom from the start. This includes 20 consultants across various project and commercial functions including Lead Quantity Surveyors; Commercial Managers; Forensic Planners and Specialist Claims Consultants.
